# Smart Grading in Learn Mode

How AI-assisted answer checking works during flashcard review.

Smart Grading helps check your typed or spoken answer during Learn Mode. It is useful when you want more feedback than a simple self-grade.

## When to use Smart Grading

- You want Memo to compare your answer with the expected answer.

- You are practicing longer explanations.

- You want feedback before deciding whether you remembered the card.

## Turn Smart Grading on or off

1.  Open a flashcard set.

2.  Start **Learn**.

3.  Use the Smart Grading control in the review interface.

## How it changes review

When Smart Grading is on, Memo can evaluate your response and help decide whether it is close enough. When it is off, you can review in a more traditional self-grading flow.

## Tips

- Answer in your own words before checking feedback.

- For definitions, include the key terms or concepts.

- For reasoning questions, explain your steps rather than only giving the final answer.

## Important notes

- Smart Grading is meant to support your judgment, not replace it entirely.

- Some review flows may use energy because they involve AI evaluation.

- Your Smart Grading preference can be remembered on the device you use.
