Uploading Sources to Memo

Memo lets you attach source material to any notebook so Studio and Memo Agent can work from your own content. You can mix multiple source types in the same notebook.

Supported source types on the web

• PDF files

• Word documents (.doc, .docx, .docm), Rich Text (.rtf), and OpenDocument text (.odt)

• PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pptx, .pptm) and OpenDocument presentations (.odp)

• Spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb, .ods, .csv)

• EPUB books, HTML files (.html, .htm, .xhtml), Markdown (.md), and text files (.txt)

• Audio and video recordings (.mp3, .m4a, .wav, .mp4, .webm)

• Images such as PNG, JPG, JPEG, and WebP

• YouTube videos with usable transcripts or captions

• Website URLs

• Pasted text

Before you start

1. Open your notebook.

2. Go to the Sources panel.

3. Click Add source.

4. Add one or more sources.

5. Wait until each source shows Ready.

Adding each source type

PDF

1. Open Add source.

2. Drag in a PDF or choose one from your device.

3. If needed, click Split pages to keep only specific pages.

4. Confirm the upload.

Documents and presentations

1. Open Add source in your notebook on the web.
2. Choose or drag in your document, presentation, spreadsheet, or book.
3. Confirm the upload and wait for Ready before selecting it for generation.

You do not need to convert supported PowerPoint or Word files to PDF first. A document's preview may differ from its original application's layout. If Memo reports that a file is protected or invalid, export an unprotected copy from the original application and try that copy.

Audio and video recordings

1. Open Add source and choose a supported recording file from your device.
2. Confirm the upload and wait for processing to finish.
3. Select the Ready recording in Sources before creating notes, flashcards, or a practice test in Studio.

The recording needs audible speech for transcription. Uploading an existing recording is separate from recording live audio in your browser. For a file-size error, use the limit shown in the upload dialog.

Image

1. Open Add source.

2. Upload a supported image file.

3. Wait for Memo to process the image content.

Images are useful for scanned notes, diagrams, screenshots, or single-page handouts.

YouTube

1. Open Add source.

2. Choose the YouTube option.

3. Paste a valid YouTube link.

4. Confirm the source.

Videos with captions or usable transcripts usually produce better results.

Website

1. Open Add source.

2. Choose the website option.

3. Paste the full URL, including http:// or https://.

4. Confirm the source.

Pasted text

1. Open Add source.

2. Choose the text option.

3. Optional: enter a source name.

4. Paste your text.

5. Confirm the source.

Managing source selection

Memo does not force you to use every source in a notebook for every run. Before generating flashcards, notes, tests, podcasts, or other Studio outputs, select the ready sources you want to include. The same selection also affects Memo Agent retrieval.

This is useful when you want to generate from one lecture, compare a few readings, or exclude unfinished material.

Source statuses

• Uploading: the source is still being sent to Memo.

• Queued: the job is waiting to start.

• Processing: Memo is extracting and preparing the content.

• Ready: the source can be used in Studio and Memo Agent.

• Error: the source did not finish processing successfully.

Important notes

• Only Ready sources should be used for generation and Memo Agent.

• File-size limits depend on your current plan. Check the upload dialog or subscription page for live limits.

• Text sources have a character limit shown in the product.

• Some older legacy notebooks may still show primary-source items with slightly different behavior.
